If you’re familiar with me or this site, you may have listened to Audio Gaijin, a podcast recorded with my father in 2006 and 2007 about our years in Japan in the 70’s and 80’s (archive here). What you don’t know yet is there’s actually a super secret unlisted 15th episode that no one has ever heard.
Super Secret Episode 15 was recorded two months ago. Two whole months have transpired already, and I haven’t even started editing it yet. I’ve had a lot going on, but mainly I’ve just been enjoying this huge break from podcasting since Ronnie and I ended Pocket Sized Podcast in August. However, the guilt is now kicking in, and I’m feeling old and thinking I may die before I get this released, so I’m breaking the news now to get some accountability going.
Like I said, I haven’t started editing it yet, so I’m not sure how much of it will sound like a rehash if you’ve listened to all 14 previous episodes, but it should be fun anyway. My dad is in it, of course, and so is my friend Scott Howder, who I spent a lot of time with in Japan and who was our guest on episode 12 of Audio Gaijin years ago. We even got a couple comments from his dad Bob. Bob Howder is the man who saved me from drowning in Japan once at the ocean when I went past the drop off. He’s pretty much got permanent hero status in my mind.
Anyway, now I’ve done it. I’ve spilled the beans and I’m going to have to edit this and release it. I cannot promise to release it by any certain date, but I do make the promise right now that it will be available to download and listen to by no later than sometime in January 2015. Yes, January. That’s my no later than time, it could be earlier. Maybe it’ll be a Christmas present, who knows? Maybe I’ll decide it’s a turkey and serve it up for Thanksgiving, although I can’t see that happening. Any chance to reminisce about Japan with my dad and the Howders will always be a winner to me.
