Back to the future

Well, isn’t this special? A year ago to the day, I went live with the Statamic version of my website, having ditched WordPress in favor of it. Now I’m going back to WordPress.

This is not an indictment of Statamic. Far from it. It’s a wonderful thing: flexible, coherently structured, customizable, and pretty speedy. It’s more an indictment of the fact that I’m not a web designer or web programmer, and I don’t want to be. I just want to get my content out there and get on with my life.

With Statamic, I had to manually figure out a theme that would be correctly responsive on mobile devices, tweaking css like mad until it was almost right.1 With WordPress, I don’t have those challenges, I can rely on people who are smarter than I am and who care way more about css than I do. If I’m going to spend time learning how to manipulate things on screens, it’s going to be used digging into Swift and iOS programming.

So it’s back to the future with WordPress. Adios, Statamic. So long and thanks for all the fish.

  1. But never quite exactly.
