Not Dead Yet

I knew it had been awhile since I posted here, but even I was a little surprised that it’s been almost two months. I’ve had a lot going on, and I’m going to write about some if it soon. Some of it was kind of a big deal, and I need time to write about it properly.

In the meantime, I’m working on a site update to Pocket Sized Podcast that will get the site off WordPress and onto Statamic. Unfortunately, I’m really not a designer, so I can’t promise that it’s going to look much better. It might even look worse. I’ll leave that for the viewer to judge. One thing I can say is that while WordPress clearly has some performance and security issues, it does offer everything you need to build features into your site easily. Things like stats, comments, handling various file and content types are all handled very easily. On the other side, the flexibility and relatively good performance of a Statamic site is much better. And, let’s face it, learning how it works and customizing it is a lot of fun. Right now I’m finishing up the templates that will automatically build the RSS feed as I add podcast episodes to the site, and that’s actually been a lot of fun. It’s not even that hard, I just seem to have ten minutes at a time to work on it.

The other thing going on later this year is that Peter is coming to visit for a few days. You can bet we’ll try to record something for a podcast…
